I've had the following conversation with my mother more times than I could count:

This exchange has gone both ways & has been repeated for years, which is why I was intrigued when I heard about The Fatigue Prescription, a new (work)book by Dr. Linda Hawes Clever. While I was initially skeptical of a book about fatigue by a Dr. Clever (yes, it's her real name, & yes, she's a real doctor) - I was waiting for it to culminate with, "Buy my magic vitamin herbal supplement!" - the book really delivered.
I admit that I was unable to work through the exercises because of the deadline I was on to get this up (curing fatigue just worked so well with our self-care theme this month!), I found the book to be really eye-opening. Dr. Clever goes beyond, "Eat veggies, exercise, sleep" to allow you to check-in on your relationships, your energy, your attitude, your likes, your dislikes, etc. She offers fascinating insights that had me exclaiming, "Wow!" out loud like a crazy person. One example: people over 50 who viewed aging optimistically lived an average of 7.5 years longer than those who viewed it negatively (what?!). Another example: the Latin root of the word "encourage" comes from "en = in" & "cor = heart", so when someone encourages you, they're putting their heart into yours. Right?!

I have two definite fatigue prescriptions:
1. Reading. I am ALWAYS reading a book; fiction.
2. Laughing. Works every time.

I am one of those people that I have to take naps when I can... if I feel fatigued, I will try and take a hot bath and then take a little power nap! And if that doesn't help, when I wake up I will have a little tea/coffee!
Sounds like a great book! I am a HUGE believer in naps. I've long said that offices should have a mandatory naptime after lunch :)
I would also say that jazz music has been working wonders for me lately. It's mellow enough to chill me out better than a glass of wine, but complex enough that I feel the wheels in my head begin to turn again; it allows me to come up with more energy and creativity to finish my day.
I recently started acupuncture in hopes it helps my overall body but also to help with fatigue issues.

I don't have an soution to my fatigue yet.....I fall into bed exhausted and then wake up exhausted after a bad nights sleep. I would be interested in reading what Linda has to say.

My fatigue prescription is to take a day off from working out (I often overdo it in that category) and take a hot bath while reading a book. And inevitably drip water all over the pages. :)
Knowing when to take a break and working on seeing things with a more positive attitude are my prescription. Although I will admit these aren't easy to actually do!

I am a nap taker....especially during the school year when I am teaching junior high special education students. I come home drained....BUT this year I am vowing to come home and not just land on the couch for a nap every single day....so this book would be perfect for me!

Hmmm, I struggle with fatigue since I struggle with sleep. But boy, when I get a full night's sleep, I feel amazing! So my prescription would be - don't skimp on sleep and don't take it for granted! Get it while you can!
