Michelle on The Self-Care Disconnection, or The-Ridiculousness-of-Knowing-What-You-Need-But-Not-Actually-Doing-It

Hi lovely people! Are you enjoying our self-care overload this month? I hafta say that I'm loving all the content this month & it's really brought self-care to the forefront of my mind. I'm thinking about it so much, actually, that I just had to make a video to share what I'm realizing, what I'm struggling with, & the disconnect between them.

I talk in the video about the Overwhelm (yes, capital O) I've been feeling lately & the posts I wrote about it on my personal blog, & wanted to share the links with you. The first one is titled The Beauty of the Big Ole Brain Dump (or How I Decided What to Take Off My Plate) and the conclusion is Big Realizations (or The Results of the Big Brain Dump).

Another special thanks to Jess Larson for inspiring this video with her very own. Go watch it if you haven't already!

And a quick reminder that you have until Monday at noon Eastern to enter the Dollface LaLa print giveaway, so go now & put your comment in the ring. Also, we still have spots open for guest contributors next month, so if you have anything to say/write/paint/draw/etc around the theme of Inspiration, let us know!

Oh Michelle, thank YOU so much for this video and for your willingness to be vulnerable. I was nodding and mmm-hmmm'ing through the whole 6 minutes. It's super hard for me to admit that I struggle with the self-care big picture vs. day-to-day reality, because I'm afraid of the seeming hypocrisy. But as much as I know in my gut that it's not a negotiable piece, you're absolutely right; as a student of this wisdom, those blocks are tangible and mysterious.

One inroad I'm experimenting with right now involves a conscious structuring of my client load. So now that I have this blessed influx of work, over time it's more and more clear that I can handle 2 clients at one level; 3 at one level; 3 at another, plus 2 births a month. Or something like that. And when I take on too much above that structure, I know that my self-care is the first thing that suffers. (And then, of course, the question of whether the additional income meets the price of my sanity; literally if I can afford not to work more and more and more. But that's another question for another day.)

Figuring out the balance isn't static or an overnight fix, and for sure is currently accompanied by heartache and knots in my stomach. And it perhaps isn't a magic pill or applicable for everyone's entrepreneurial scenario. But it's giving me a bit of peace, which right now is so damn valuable.

Michelle, this is a pretty brave post, but one that definitely resonates. Overall, it sounds like you really are on your way to figuring things out though - hang in there! I wonder if you still haven't made the transition away from working for someone else (I ask because that's part of my own problem I think...) You may know that busy doesn't equal productive, but you lived the busy = good for long enough that it's hard to go against your training! Another possibility (yep, another thing I face) is that you wonder if you cut back on the work, what will happen? Will things slow down to a snail's pace and you'll wish you had agreed to take on a new client? That's a tough one -- I myself have so many things on my plate that I freeze since I don't know which to do first. But I feel I have to constantly work at one of them, or everything will crash down! But, isn't recognizing the problem a big part of the solution? It sure sounds like you're heading in the right direction! Sorry for the non-editing, but toddler is turning on the washer..gotta go.

Winning elections is a science in Russia, though not a particularly elegant one. Coach FactoryThe term polit-tekhnolog (political technologist) is, after all, a Russian neologism.Chanel Bags There are well-paid teams of them in Moscow who do nothing but hatch ways to confuse voters, skew results and, when necessary, stuff the ballot box. Reports of their handiwork have been rife ahead of Russia's parliamentary elections Coach Outleton Sunday, calling to mind the country's unofficial electoral mantra, which is usually Coach Outletattributed to Stalin: "It's not important how they vote. Chanel HandbagsInsofar as South Ossetia even has an economy, it relies on trade with the Russian Coach Factory Storemilitary, which conquered the region from the Republic of Georgia after a weeklong war in 2008. If you check Google Maps,Louis Vuitton or ask the U.N., the region is still technically a part of Georgia.Chanel BagsThe region's budget comes almost exclusively from Russian aid, whichChanel Bags has added up to about a billion dollars since 2008, when Russia became the Chanel Bagsfirst to recognize South Ossetia as an independent state. Since then, only four other countries Coach Outlethave followed suit: Venezuela, Nicaragua and the two Pacific island nations of Tuvalu and Coach Factory OutletNauru, all in exchange for loans or other goodies from Moscow.Besides, Coach Outlet Onlinethe region has only 28,000 registered voters, most of whom hold Russian Coach Outletpassports and worship Russia for liberating them from Georgian rule. The region's Coach Factory OutletPresident, Eduard Kokoity, openly stated in 2008 that South Ossetia Coach Outletshould eventually become a part of Russian territory. So it seemed obvious that when Coach Factory StoreKokoity's term in office ran out this year, Russia's favored candidate Louis Vuitton Bagswould easily succeed him. It wouldn't require a lot of finesse on Russia's part, just a bit of old-fashioned campaigning. But even before the elections began, things started going wrong.
