My DIY Right Brain Business Plan/ Time Management Tool/ Box o' Business Brilliance
October 15, 2010 Over on this week's video, I gave youse guys (yes, I meant to write "youse guys." I live in Brooklyn, after all) a sneak peak of my most recent DIY project since, well, summer camp in...oh...1992. I explained that purchasing The Right Brain Business Plan last year lead me to use these 6x6 cards that I had lying around my house for some unknown reason, and I ended up loving the format. These mini-inspiration boards were perfect to take around with me, allowed me to get my ideas out on paper & really visualize them, and kept me organized since I could decide which cards to pull and put in front of me at any given time.
I knew I wanted a box to keep my cards in, but since they were such an unusual size (larger than an index card/business card/other usual card-holder card), I had a bit of trouble. I went so far as conversing with an Etsy seller (who shall remain nameless) to make me something custom, but when we decided on what I wanted, she dropped off the face of the earth! Weirdness. That definitely held me back for quite a while, and I let my lovely cards be banished to a shelf next to my desk, bound by a rubber band and not doing me much good out of sight.
But then, through the miracle of Twitter, I came across this post and thought, "Eureka! I have a cereal box! I can make this for my Right Brain Business Cards! Perfect!" I also thought that I haven't done anything crafty since 1992 and this might not work in any way, shape, or form, but what did I have to lose? Some time and a cereal box was all! It empowered me to get started.
I measured. I cut. I....looked around for something to cover the box with. The holiday wrapping paper wouldn't work. Magazine pages weren't sparking me up. But then, I saw it - Jess' New Years Goals & Intentions kit! I had it all this time because, frankly, it was too pretty for me to write on, and I had nowhere to put it! I knew that the stickers and mini-inspiration cards she included would be perfect to cover the box, and I would super love to hold my goals/dreams/plans in there. So I got out my rubber cement, picked up my scissors, and got to work. I even used the pouch that she put the kit in (hand-sewed so lovingly!) to cover the back and sides of the box! Perfect.

I have 4 sections right now: Right Brain Business Plan, which houses the cards I made from that product directly; Goals/Projects, which has brain dumps of all the products and services I wanna offer in the future; Time Management, which has cards like "When I Grow Up: The Every Day Tasks"; and Journal-ish, which holds stuff like my self-portrait and Vern the Vampire.

This really does tie into what we were talking about in the video on Tuesday, and how creativity is there for you to make your own processes, getting your ideas from your head into your hands.
