Spring ladies, love ya, but get outta my head. ;) I just wrote my morning pages today about how my fitness/health goals for 2010 need to be more directly tied to my "why" and not to numbers. Telling myself I should or must get out of bed and run isn't doing the trick, but maybe if I focus more on WHY I want to run, I'll tie in to the necessary motivation.

Secondly, I'm a kinda nutty perfectionist and, when Jess was making the comments about Spring not being perfect, I had such a lightbulb moment. Y'know, it's *not* perfect. But if you waited for it to be perfect, you wouldn't have your intros up already, you wouldn't be on episode 2. I say this not to motivate you, but it really resonated with me--you've put this out in this less-than-perfect form, yet it's already connected with and helped a number of people. I'm going to keep that in mind as an inspiration to not allow perfectionism to get in the way of just doing things.

As always, thanks to all of you. :)

Your comment is so incredibly inspiring, Angelique. At first I got nervous, but love that you emphasized how we did take a leap of faith and put this up in less than perfect form. As you mentioned, the key was focusing on the WHY. Without the "why," the goal/action/activity/resolution feels like an obligation placed upon you.

Instead, when you know why -- you are doing xyz for a personal reason, and because you SO deserve it! You're in the control seat.

Spring isn't perfect, not will it ever be. However, just like life - it's a journey ... and the hardest step was just starting -- putting ourselves out there. Just coming to this site and reading comments or re-watching the videos is the best part of my day :).

PS The annoying buzzing sound will be fixed by our March video (episode 4)!

Thank you again for taking the time to share your reaction :).

Continuing to enjoy your posts -- thanks for your "intention" to keep them up. A crucial comment in today's session was the one about approaching our intentions/goals/resolutions from a positive rather than a negative perspective. Often, we (as a perfectionist, i'm the first to say 'mea culpa') fail to treat ourselves with the same generosity with which we treat others. That emphasis is a major factor in our "failure" to meet our expectations.

Perhaps that is why resolutions are getting a bad rap: our expectations are so high, and so black-and-white that reaching them is just about impossible. Those of us who are committed to being kinder to ourselves, and to either obliterating the word "failure" from our lives, or who simply consider a "failure" just another word for "learning," are using the word "intention" as a surrogate for this more caring attitude.

I would suggest, 'though, that it doesn't really matter what we call IT: whether intention, goal, or resolution. What counts is the attitude and feeling behind whatever term we use I don't want to separate myself from others who use a different word than I do; the semantical difference doesn't matter. What's important is that we seek to travel our paths with gratitude for what we've accomplished, --however small it may seem-- with positive ambition toward the possibilities, and with joy for what lies ahead.

Thanks for opening the door to think through some of these issues.

I so enjoyed this video! Would love a chance to continue work on my intentions!

So motivating. Life is not perfect...we are not perfect. So if I set a goal that is not achieved it does not mean that I failed but rather that I have something to learn from the process. My intentions, goals and actions are set. My letter to myself is next.

Yet another Jess here!.....I just discovered your site, and it really puts a new perspective on something I have been doing my whole life...setting goals! This year, I broke up all of my goals, projects and intentions into each month of the year, so I don't get overwhelmed with doing all of them right away and put them by the wayside. I find myself looking forward to each month and each project and goal I will work on and chip away at throughout the year.

It's great to have a community of people here to relate to, because sometimes people around me don't really understand my drive. It's nice to know I am not alone.

Thanks!
